February 10, 2022 meeting

Early in the morning of Monday February 15, 2021, lights went out for millions of Texans.  Furnaces ceased at the same time that temperatures plunged to new lows and winds made the cold even more threatening.  People were to die of hypothermia or carbon monoxide poisoning.  Industry also suffered, with refineries and chemical plants immediately forced into hazardous emergency shutdowns.  ERCOT’s electrical grid covers almost the entire state.  Generally the grid worked well, that is, until it didn’t.  This talk offers insight into the complicated causes of the catastrophic failure, and suggests guidance on reducing future risk from unexpected power loss.

Make plans to hear Steve Emerson and Bill Maxwell’s presentation this Thursday.
