May 17, 2018 meeting

Christina Perry with Doctors Regional Hospital will be our program speaker on Thursday.

Some of the most exciting advances in medicine involve the use of robotic surgery, or computer-assisted surgery. In this minimally invasive technique, the surgeon sits at a computer station allowing him or her to see enlarged, 3D images of the body. The robotic system translates the doctor’s hand movements to control the instruments during surgery. These instruments can move through smaller incisions with greater precision.

Corpus Christi Medical Center is the only hospital in the Coastal Bend area that offers minimally invasive surgery with the da Vinci® Si Robotic Surgical System. Robotic surgery can replace large-incision surgeries (open surgery) with a minimally invasive approach that results in less pain, smaller scars, minimal blood loss and faster recovery time when compared to traditional surgical techniques.

What a fantastic Thursday meeting we just wrapped up! Our agenda was full, just the way we like it! A heartfelt thank you to our fellow Rotarian, Kathleen Clark, for sharing insights about the Alzheimer's Association, an organization that holds a special place in her heart. With over a decade of volunteering, she currently serves as the Executive Event Chair for the Walk to End Alzheimer's. Her commitment to early detection and outreach truly inspires us all! We also want to extend our gratitude to the students who presented to our club today. From RYLA participants to Scouts, and including the Valedictorian and Salutatorian of Veterans Memorial High School, we were genuinely impressed by their accomplishments and their growth as leaders. ...
